The State of Mental Wellbeing in the Communication Profession

July 27, 2022

Mental wellbeing, exhaustion, stress, and burnout are very real issues in the communication profession right now.

Earlier this year, The Centre for Strategic Communication Excellence released their report So how do you really feel? – a global study, designed to provide insight into how individuals in the industry feel about their mental wellbeing, identify the barriers to improving it, and gain insights that employers, leaders, and associations like the IABC can use to help ease the pressure.

Join us on Wednesday 27 July at 6pm AEST as we explore the key findings of the report and discuss some simple actions we can implement right now.

You’ll hear from former IABC Victoria President, Sia Papageorgiou FRSA, SCMP who led the research, and mental wellbeing consultant and Mental Health First Aid Instructor Julie Gillespie.

Some of report highlights include:
  • Communication and public relations professionals are stressed, anxious, and frustrated.
  • Worse still, 48% said they’ve considered leaving the profession for the sake of their mental wellbeing.
  • Less than half of respondents are optimistic about their mental wellbeing in 2022.
  • 20% of respondents don’t feel comfortable talking to anyone about their mental wellbeing.

Let’s use these insights to have better conversations with our leaders, peers, colleagues, and clients, and collectively create the type of environment where communication and public relations professionals feel respected, accepted, and comfortable to be themselves.
